These last 4 days have been quite productive for our team. Again focusing on our three main aspects of Programming, Designing, and Constructing were able to use the designs to construct the robot which will then allow us to focus our efforts on the programming.
Programming team was able to slightly test their program on the final day as the completion of the robot came together. The movement and turning was definitely quicker as the new robot was based on a minimalist style which kept it light. The slightly completed arm also received a makeover with lighter pieces and a new gear ration aimed for torque. After testing it with the programming all that is left for the programming aspect is to work out as many kinks as possible.
Snippet of Completed Program
Designing has completed a lot within the four day gap. Managing to complete both the base with custom parts and the arm that was subjected to multiple changes all that is left is the claw mechanism. With the designs in SolidWorks and Autodesk Inventor the construction team was able to think beforehand and avoid errors that may have come up if the team built the robot of the top of their heads. Although a few problems were present, such as the transfer between programs or the crashing and slowness of the computers, the designing team was able to push through and complete the biggest challenge.
Autodesk Inventor Render of the Robot Base and Arm
The construction team was able to physically build the base and arm. Although at first the construction team gave ideas, their ideas soon became virtual models and now they have become physical. many of the angle pieces were printed out from designs by the design team but the whole project came out as planned using the model as a blueprint. All that's left is to finish the claw which will be designed and then built. The claw has been cut down to either a pneumatic system or a gear system, in order to test for efficiency the hinge mechanism needs to be made. After this hard 2 weeks of the Winter Internship, it's all coming together.
